Samsung VP DC 171W Video recovery....

Hi guy's,

anyone have anygood ideas how i can recover a video on an 8cm dvd (Verbatim 8cm DVD+R Double Layer) that failed pre finalised on the camcorder (Samsung VP DC 171W). so far i've tried several things :-

Home Sony DVD Recorder = no disc
Camcorder = no disc
PC DVD-RW DRIVE= DVD-ROM but nothing at all in file and disc reads as no data

so far I have tried a couple of data recovery programs but they find nothing as well (as though disc is not in drive).

I'm getting kinda desperate as this has half of our honeymoon on the disc!

ISOBuster is probably your best bet. If that fails then you may have to write it off.

Isobuster say's no....it only finds a 32mb file which is not video...any other idea's?

The disc may be bad. While we do recommend Verbatim DVD+R DL over all other brands, was your disc made in India by any chance? I've posted on this elsewhere, but earlier in the year I copied an Asian TV show to a Verbatim DVD+R DL disc that was one of the Made In India ones. It took me months to get around to watching it. At the time of the burn, it burned with no problems. However, the final 10% or so of the disc is now unwatchable due to some error on the disc that none of my DVD players (neither PC nor standalone) can deal with. I have a very new LG made player that is quite good at dealing with disc errors and it can't deal with this error either. The thought occurs to me that maybe you've been burned by Made In India media.

You might could pay a media recovery service to try to extract data from your DVD, but I can't promise you that they will be able to do so. It will also probably be quite expensive. Here in the USA such services cost $1000 US minimum and quite possibly more.

As you're a new member you may not know this, but DL discs are risky.
Nobody knows what their long term storage will be like, even with good quality Made In Singapore Verbatim DVD+R DL discs. It could be that in 5-10 years we may find that all of our DL discs are useless. Or they might be fine. But I'm a lot surer that my single layer DVDs will still be good in 10 years than any DL discs will be still good. We just don't know. If it's important "can't live without it" stuff, in my opinion you have no choice at this time but to stick to high quality (Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim) single layer DVDs because we just don't know if the DL discs will last over time or not.
