Connecting laptop (vga) to television (no s-video)

Is it possible to connect my Dell D630 laptop with only a vga connection to my older television which only has the RCA inputs? I bought a cable ( http://cgi.ebay.com/VGA-to-TV-Conver...QQcmdZViewItem ) but it does not seem to work.. even though my video card does have the capability. I went into the display options but the card does not detect a monitor attached..

any help?

No won't work. Unless this is an option provided from the laptop manufacturer. This has been covered numerous times. Use search.

Your Dell Laitude supports the D/Port for docking. The video goes through the docking connector.

If it doesn't work with just the cable alone you can always use a VGA to composite converter box to convert the signal into your TV. I use one from my DVI ports on my desktop as I don't have an HDTV to plug into. I picked a box called Grand Ultimate Vision up in Hong Kong for around £15 but you can get similar ones on Ebay for a fairly cheap price. Obviously try the cable out as much as possible first but if not then this is a pretty decent alternative, hope this helps.

Modern laptop makers have mostly standardized on the DIN "TV port" with 4 to 9 pins for analog video connection. The VGA connector is rarely if ever used to pass composite/S-Video.

Pins 1-4 are always S-Video on the "TV Port" pins 5-9 functions vary by display chip manufacter. Modern NVidia chipsets pass composite, S-Video and analog component (SD and HD) over the TV Port.
