i just updated from 7 to 8 and can't seem to find AC3 in render as, 7 used to have to make option AC3 files, or have Sony just removed that option from Vegas as i see .AA3 file does 5.1 too.

vegas pro 8 makes ac3 files of any flavor you wish. give it a wav file and choose render as dolby digital ac-3 pro. you can select 1.0, 2.0 up to 5.1ch audio if you have a 6 ch. source.
In the past (up to and including 7, can't speak for 8), mpeg-2 and AC3 output were not standard. You got them if you installed DVD Architect, or if you licensed them separately.
vegas pro 8 comes with architect but i don't think you need to install it for ac3 rendering. i could be wrong as i have dvda 5.0 installed also so i can't tell for sure.
found out from the sony help center that i had to reinstall vegas as the download from there site was missing files, and they had just put out a new build, so it all working now.
