    what's an excellent high-grade tape to buy at my local store in the US? I want to try an experiment with a project and haven't used the stuff in years...low hiss would help

    whatever you can find of the "metal" variety should work fine.

    if you don't have a tape deck that uses metal tapes you might find some maxell cro2 xlII around

    I used them for stealth taping until DAT came along. My local Walgreen's still carries them in singles
    and 5 packs......
