  1. I'm using a P4 1.7GHZ. Trying to play a 1920x1080 HD MPEG2 file is a horrible experience when using GOM or VLC (I normally play vids of the size 1024 width and lower). I've tried tweaking some options in GOM but still the video is very choppy.

Are you aware of performance options in either player i can set to help improve things or even a different player? I'm on the verge of using VirtualDubMod to just resize the video to 960x540 but this entails (from my understanding) recompressing the entire file (into Xvid or Divx) and rescaling. It will take about 2hrs to reprocess the 3min video.

    Thanks.

There will be little to no difference between any software player given your computer specs - it's too old.

    Bottom line: upgrade your PC.

  3. Acutally then i will just use virtualdubmod to resize the video. Going out and purchasing a whole new PC just for this is pointless if you ask me especially when i already have a solution.

In VLC, set preferences for Video Deinterlace Discard. That will play 1080i one field at half width (960x540p quarter size) @ 29.97fps. That should play. Your machine will still struggle with 1280x720p @ 59.94 fps.
