I am looking for a DVD Recorder with a DV Input that is compatible with the Canon HV30 1394 port in "DV Locked" mode in order to quickly author SD DVDs of HD content. I would prefer a unit that automatically sets chapter points "By Scene" or "By Date". The Toshiba KX50 has this functionality but does not recognize the HV30. Any suggestions?

I wonder how the Philips 3575 would react, seeing how it supports HD source downconversion to DVD.

Only one person has reported using the 3575/76 with a Canon Elura DV camera. It copied WS material fine, but as we know, the 3575/76 doesn't set the WS flag for playing WS on a 4:3 TV... his only "complaint."

I don't have a DV camera so don't know much more than that, but here's a post on recording WS with a ref. to someone else who did record WS via DV input with a diff. camera

The 3575/76 sets auto and custom chapter marks, but the auto are per a user-selected interval. More on Chapter Marks towards bottom of this page.

I'm using TDA3 to re-author to menu-less 16:9. Even if I did 352x480 LP mode 16:9, I use the flag and it's playing fine all over the house. Not compliant, but seems fine.

I have it connected to HDTV anyway, so I usually don't care, I keep little off the hard drive, it's mostly my PVR.

Mostly keep 4:3 old tv shows if I do.

If I do an SD digital dub via 1394 from the HV30 to my JVC MiniDV Camcorder, then I can transfer to the KX50 via 1394 from the JVC. However, I have found that chapter points are only added in SD recordings. The scene breaks in HD recordings do not make it through for some reason...
