If the tapes are in good shape,...wedding videos they must be... you'll probably get just as good a transfer with a decent recorder. The need for a "professional" service comes in for damaged, well watched and really old tapes and then you have to be careful the "professional" service isn't just sticking them in cheap VHS deck and using a ....drum roll.... DVD recorder. Truly professional services are far and few between, most of the people here could produce better than you'll find in the "pay for" arena. Just to add any editing service is going to be bucks $$$... most of the services I've seen listed aren't giving you anymore than the basic DVD recorder menu or some canned one like you'll get from Ulead Movie Factory.

If you or she has a DV camcorder see if it has the pass through feature, get a cheap authoring program like Ulead Movie Factory and you're all set.

I wrote pretty lengthy article if you want some more details: http://www.nepadigital.com/articles/analog-capture.php

  5. she doesn't have a miniDv cam or DVD recorder all she wants is a basic transfer she lives in CA ,and I live in IL ,and i don't wanna mess with it.

I will try to convince to try a DVD recorder from wal-mart so it's easy for her to return it in case she doesn't know how to use it.

    ATV Prodigy Productions, Rocklin.

I've rented equipment there but haven't used their editing/authoring services.

    Another is http://www.auadigital.com/Home_Page.html
Others under Yahoo Yellow Pages "video transfer" or "DVD authoring"
    Bay Area has many choices.
