Using Sony HDR SR11 On Mac

I'm trying to use a sony hdd hd camera with my macbook pro osx 10.4.11- running final cut pro 4.1 if i try to use the camera in HD the files aren't rcognised as video files, if i try using the camera in sd mode it will import the video but with no sound. I've also tried with imovie hd and using quicktime 7.4 but i get the ame lack of results every time.

you might need to select "log and transfer" not capture for the avchd files, but i doubt version 4.1 supported current avchd types. you probably need to update to version 6.

as for the sd. are you using the firewire port and "log and capture"

camera only has usb port so can't use firewire.

nuts, how nice of them. try the "log and transfer" option for SD also.

Sony does have a free plugin for FCP that enables capture and conversion. Check their website.

That's what you get when you buy a camcorder that records in a "delivery" format rather than an "editing" format. *sigh*

For all of you who allready have or thinkin to buy some HDV camera and wants the highest quality captures without any hassle on both, Mac's and/or PC's, find a model with HDMI output and consider to buy something like Blackmagic Intenisity Pro HDMI capture card...Those types of capture cards bypasses the HDV compression chip and you should get much better quality captures than with regular FireWire or USB2 ports. Also you will be able to do frame accurate editing of your recordings...Intensity Pro card works in both "worlds" - e.g. on Mac and PC's with all major editing applications and thats why I mentioned that one...The caveat is that you must have desktop machine...

As for the original question..You should upgrade your Final Cut to version 6 /or maybe 5 will do it too, I cannot remember, check on Apple.com/ .. Also I dont think you will be able to do it via USB2 port without installing the some plugin or something...Capturing on Mac works via FireWire /i.Link/ port...Or, maybe, since that model of the camera has hdd built-in, you can mount it somehow and then copy the recordings over to Mac...
