    Hey!!

I've been capturing a movie from a game and wanted to edit it in Movie Maker. But somsetimes it crashes and suddently it would'nt publish a whole movie only the whole song or else it crashes when i try to publish it.

I tried to uninstall codecs and install Vista Codec Pack and K-Lite Mega Codec Pack and Community Codec Pack i think. Of course I uninstalled all the codecs before installing other packs.

I also tried to uncheck all the .ax files in Tools > Options > Compatibility it made the video longer but still not the whole video...

    Anyone got an answer???

Aside from all the codec packs and using what is possibly the worst video editor ever created, you done everything right.

What did you capture with, and to what format ?

1: Use restore to go back prior to any codec pack installation

2: Then you might try solution located at > http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/Fo...?PostID=104396

3: What other products (programs) have been installed, some are known to contribute to these problems.

Windows movie maker is NOT the worst video editor to ever see the day of light.

Not really. If WMM is famous for anything, it's for crashing for no apparent reason at all. I'd find it much weirder if it didn't crash.

Isn't wmv what you want to create? What's a .mswmm file? A project file from WMM? If so, I guess only wmm will open it. What is your source file format?

    What do mean by "publish"?
    Let's start over:
    1) What do you start with?
    2) What do you want to do with it (edits?)
    3) What do you want to end up with?

I made some in-game clips etc. and wanted to edit them to YouYube in WMM. After a day or two I finally finished editing and tried to make the movie so it would be .wmv file format instead of .MSWMM (WMM project file) file. But when the publishing is done it's only 20-30 secs video in the .wmv but in WMM when I play it then it plays the whole 4 min video...

AFAIK Fraps uses its own lossless codec to produce AVIs. Windows Media Encoder
should open and convert these without a problem.

No, I doubt WME opens WMM project files. And I seriously doubt anything besides wmm does.

Just tried converting the .avi files to .wmv the quality looks like crap compared to the input file...

Yes of course it does. FRAPS AVI is (as previously stated) basically uncompressed (at least lossless) while WMV is usually heavily compressed.
Use something else than wmv/wmm to edit/save your video - Keep it as uncompressed as possible. Then, when you're done, take a look at the numerous threads here on how to optimize for YouTube upload (which looks like crap to me anyway!)

It seems you have not taken the time to read about
how to encode Windows-Media video properly. Keywords:
bitrate, resolution, CBR, average bitrate, 2-passes, constant quality.
And no, the ready-made wmv encoding "profiles" usually are *not* helpful.

Give up on WMM. It's simply not worth struggling with, if it's so crash prone on your setup. Probably, you made things lots worse by installing the codec packs you described in your original post.
I once installed a codec pack and really never got the system 100% back in good health until I formatted my OS drive and installed XP from scratch again.
There's now 3 days since you started this struggle. Cut your losses, delete the WMM project, move on to a better editor and start over with your YouTube edit. This time, make a quick edit and make sure the editor you choose can save out in the format you want, before endeavouring on your final cut.

Regardless of the editing application you used, you crippled yourself from the very start by installing codec packs. Problems may persist until you wipe your hard drive clean and reinstall everything EXCEPT the codec packs.

    No. Don't give up.
Can you upload the first few seconds of the input and the output videos. Just want to take a peek at the headers.
Even GSpot screenshots. We really want to help.

Why would you suggest that someone is crippled by installing codecs? As Microsoft doesn't include many codecs which are popular, can you propose a solution to the inability to watch many video files without installing codecs?
