  1. Using VirtualDub, I have Huffyuv (the latest) which I plan to use with the MSU Smart Deblocking Filter. I want the best quality possible without regard for file size or processor speed (I have plenty of both). Should I save as avi? Is there a way to save as mpeg (which is the format of the original file)?

    Help! :)

Use huffyuv or uncompressed and then convert to mpeg with hcenc.

  3. How do I determine the aspect ratio? Meaning, if it's not widescreen should it be? Does this make sense?

You can drop the original video into Gspot and it will tell you the aspect ratio, 4:3 for this video:

  5. Note that GSpot won't report the right DAR for all sources. The AVI header doesn't really include display aspect ratio flags. Some codecs have private DAR flags that GSpot can read (DV AVI for example). But for some files (huffyuv AVI for example) you may need to eyeball the DAR.
