Are there any codecs available to allow WMP11 to play mp4,mov files and other video formats? As well as audio such as AAC and m4a?
I saw that 3ivx could possibly do it but I don't think it is free and it would be better to get a free program/codec to do it.

I gave up on WMP11 long ago and just use VLC, which should play all those formats without adding codecs. But you can try ffdshow and it may help WMP with some of those codecs.

I would switch over to VLC but VLC still uses 100% CPU time when playing an AVI or mkv file while WMP11 doesn't with the AVI. Also, another feature with WMP11 I like is that when you minimize it, you can still control it from the taskbar with the WMP11 toolbar. If VLC had that and didn't use 100% CPU time, I'd switch over but until then, I must use WMP11.

I guess I will have to try ffdshow

You might need Haali Media Splitter for mp4 files also.
