philips dvd701 problems with playback of ntsc encoded vcd

I have read that most can play vcds with the philips dvd701, but mine plays back black and white picture that goes up and down like the vhold is all screwed up. I checked the encoding on the disc, ntsc, and the encoding of my tv is the same. could someone please give me some ideas?

Hey, Mines a Phillips 701 also and it plays in Black and White too.. picture is steady.. I did have a problem like you said before, but I hooked it up via S-Video Cable and RCA patch cables to my Receiver and then I can play them fine, but still in Black and White... FYI.
