Giving FAVC a shot with some avis now, and don't seem to be able to choose 16x9 as an option for the conversion from avi to dvd. Am I missing something during the set-up process? Or, does this setting depend on the avi's info? Also, could I change this info with either IFOedit or ReJig after the conversion is complete to attain the 16x9 status?

    Thanks!

I believe Restream will only work with elementary video streams. DVD Patcher might be needed for a completed structure.

If you are not getting anamorphic from FAVC it is usually because the input video have an AR of less than 1.78. FAVC will encode it as 4:3, so changing the flags will give distorted output when viewing.

Thanks, guns1inger! Something else to think about.

An update, too. I converted the avi and tried changing the IFO info to 16x9 (in the IFOs, there were two parts that had the info, but one in each was already 16x9). Went fine, and made a test with a dvd-rw. Looked perfectly fine. The piece's AR is 2.35:1, btw.

    Thanks, everyone.

a.it's automatic you won't need to.

    b.favc aside
if encoding with the wrong dar setting,
you can reflag the stream with restream.
if you make it to an authored dvd, with just the flag wrongly set,
you can fix it with ifoedit or equivalent.

    true.
    so adding,
    c. favc goes to 4/3 with an AR under 1.75,
no reflaging can fix it correctly to 16/9.

    d. if you want pillarboxing you have to manually do it.
although if Odwin were asked to add a pillarbox range i'm sure he'd add it.

  7. It should probably go to 4:3 at ARs below 1.55:1. Even the somewhat common 1.66:1 ratio can benefit from 16:9 encoding. Maybe it's tricky adding pillarbars to 1.66:1 movies, as would be necessary for 16:9 encoding.
