HP 840 dvd player problem

ok I have tried and tried to get his thing to work but with no success. It did work before so I do not know what happened. I have the HP dvd player and master adn a cd player as slave. I use Nero for burning . I am running XP sp2 . I can no longer play ANY commerical dvds or cds and can not play any dvd data that I have burnt with this . I can not find otu what is wrong or hwo to fix it can anyone help me out . I have tried the microsoft autofix and it didnt' work

Check your DMA status, as described here.

I checked the DMA status of both and are set correctly according to that tutorial. Any thing else I can try?

It can't read any dvd or cd? Is the drive still recignized by Windows?

Try deleting the IDE channels. Goto Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager / IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers ...and then remove/delete the primary and secondary IDE channels. Then reboot. Windows will automatically install the drivers and find all of the drives when it boots.

Yes it is recognized by windows it gives me the error that I need to insert a disc is I put in a commercial dvd or cd
