What is the best thorough free online scanner? A friend recommended this one:
http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
Thing is, I want to perform the scan in safe mode but I have no internet access in safe mode. So my idea was to download the online scanner in normal mode and then reboot in safe mode and run it, but there seems to be no exe file associated with the online scanner, just an activex. Anyone knows how can I do it? Thanks.
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

AVG has a free version you can download, AVG is rated high according to many reviews
Dr. Web Cureit is free too, and a decent alternative -
Yes, I have the free AVG and it's very good, but I wanted to scan with another product to double check and Kaspersky is highly rated too. And since I have no internet access in safe mode and/or safe mode with networking I thought about invoking the program from my local hard drive. Kaspersky seems to install some files in this location:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Online Scanner
but all I see is an exe to uninstall it and no exe to run it.... -
If you are not looking to perform a full system scan, but instead want to just check a few suspect files, this is a good site, as it scans with multiple virus scanners.

There is also this one, but usually very busy

I could be wrong, but I think Trend Micro Housecall can do the scan in safe mode. It downloads the scanning engine. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Avast is another good free virus scanner
Donadagohvi (Cherokee for "Until we meet again") -
Best one I've used and now use all the time, because it works in safe mode
Dr Web CureIt! (free version) -

Booting the OS in "safe mode with network support"
has always worked over here. -

I've used many of them for second or even third opinion results, but the scanners for Eset and F-Secure are the best for virus scanning because they not only can find but also remove the bad guys. For antispyware, I like the Ewido scanner. With any of the online scanners, you should boot into safe mode with networking where you can download signatures, then scan.

Kaspersky's online scanner will not fix, it will only detect. It's really just a sales pitch - "You have have some viruses; now pay us and you can remove them."

I personally use Avast and like it. I think its worth looking into at least.
