  1. I have been using the tmpgenc dvd author 1.6 for some time now because it is easy and fairly flexible. I have a few avi's that have dts soundtrack and I would like to keep the dts as I prefer it to dd 5.1. Are there any authoring programs that will let you use dts for the soundtrack?

If you can afford it or have a way to get access to it through, ahem, "alternate means of distribution", Scenarist also supports DTS on DVD. Do note that according to DVD specs that DTS cannot be the only soundtrack on the DVD and comply with standards. Some authoring programs may allow you to do this anyway, but technically the specs require that either LPCM or AC3 audio also be on the discs in addition to DTS.
