LG LH-D6246 region free some disks wont play

I have followed the hack to make region free and some Region 1 disks play fine, others either come up as Disk Error or play part way through and they show as corrupted. I have played the DVD's on another player and they work fine.

I am in Australia, so the default region is 4.

Any help or suggestions?

If the discs are commercial pressed discs, then it could be that the discs won't play in a region free player. Some discs verify region before they will play, when the player returns a region 0 (region free) code, the disc abort because the region code doesn't match.

As for the other playback issue, it sounds like you are using copied DVD's which are recorded onto a media brand/type that the player doesn't like, the DVD is dirty/scratched, or the player is just dirty/failing.

Krispy Kritter is correct. Some region 1 discs are deliberately pressed to NOT play in region free players. I believe Paramount does this, but they are not alone. If I remember correctly, I believe this is called "RCE encoding". You can try setting your player to region 1 and it may play the discs, assuming there are no pressing problems with the discs, scratches, etc.

Here's how RCE works. Imagine the following conversation taking place between a DVD and the DVD player. This is essentially what is happening with RCE.
DVD: I'm a region 2 disc. Can you play me?
Player: Yes, I can play you. I can play DVDs from all regions.
DVD: I lied! I'm really region 1. I will now refuse to play because I know you are not a region 1 only player. If you were a region 1 only player, you would say that you couldn't play me.

If your DVD player is set to region 1, the following conversation takes place.
DVD: I'm a region 2 disc. Can you play me?
Player: No, I can't play you. I can only play region 1 discs.
DVD: I lied! I'm really region 1. I will now begin to play.

I'm a little concerned about these discs that play part way through because if RCE is your problem, they won't even start. You may have other issues with this player - it may be getting old, it may just be a piece of crap, your laser may be going bad, etc.

Find a player that can select region instead of region free. That way you can bypass this RCE.
