I bought a Toshiba D-R400 and it has pass-thru feature that allows you to pass the signal from a satelite reciever thru the DVDR deck to the TV when the DVDR is tuned-off. I can only get to work with the composite video cable as input and output. The manual is vague on this feature. I called Toshiba's customer service and they told me it should work with the S-video jacks but I am unable to get to work with the S-video jacks. The DVDR has a menu item to select whether the DVDR input jack is set to video or S-video.
Anyone know if it works with the S-video jacks on the DVDR?

  2. I, too, was only able to get the composite to work, though I did not spend much time trying the other inputs/outputs. The one time I tried the S-Video, pass-thru did not seem to work, but I may not have had it setup right.

Pass-thru on the composites worked great. I don't have mine hooked up at the moment or I would try again.

    Good luck!

I just got the D-R400 and am very happy with it.

I've successfully set up my satellite receiver to use the pass-thru via composite in and out. The manual does state that this is the only way pass-thru will work. It works fine while the D-R400 is off, however the pass-thru is instantly disconnected the moment the D-R400 is turned on. Is this normal?

  4. Yes, that's exactly how it's supposed to work. Pass-thru is active only when off - that's the idea.

When it's on, you control the output selections.

Thanks for your response. Sorry if there was some ambiguity in my query. My concern is that with the unit turned on, keeping the composite output selected, no signal goes through - TV is blank. However, selecting component or HDMI lets the signal through.
