I've tried fixing this myself, but I really have no idea what the problem is. Every other DVD works fine, but for some reason I have issues with a couple:

Whatever I try to do with a section of imported video (add it to the timeline, edit it, export it, what have you), the video is scrambled and useless. I'm not sure if this is some kind of copy protection or just an issue with the video. Is there any way I can clean up a 'scrambled' video?

    Thanks for any help.

    What was the source ?

If it was a commercial DVD, how was it ripped ? Does it play back off the HDD correctly ?

Are you editing VOBs or mpg footage ?

If VOBs, have you tried extracting them with VOB2MPG first ?

Yep, I've tried using VOB2MPG, but I got the same problem.

I'm editing VOBs from the DVD and then exporting them as MPGs as clips. It usually always works, but on some DVDs the video is just severely distorted (even in the preview window). I've tried using DVD-rippers, but the quality is usually terrible.

Again - if these are commercial dvds, how are you getting the vobs ?

Rippers like DVD HD Decrypter do not change the video quality at all, they simply remove the copy protection and transfer the data.

By "imported" you mean from outside of the United States?
USA is NTSC Format.....Where is your video from?

I load up MPEG Video Wizard and choose "import item", then I select the VIDEO_TS folder - that gives me a list of VOBs. I usually just cut what I need from there and save it to the hard-drive.

I'll try DVD HD Decrypter though.

Whoops, I should've been more specific about that, lol. I meant import the VOB from the DVD itself.

Somehow you were importing encrypted video. This is what the copy protection was designed to produce should you try to avoid it. Ripping it correctly removes the protection and leaves you will clean video to play with.
