I just rented a copy of "The Giants of Marathon", an old Steve Reeves movie from the 50's. The distributor is one Alpha Video at www.oldies.com
The quality is the worst I have ever seen. It's like they took an old scratched up VHS tape and copied it on a DVD recorder. It's full screen and has bars on the top and bottom of the screen. What a joke. It's much poorer worse quality than the first DVD release of Mad Max. Beware of Alpha Video!
It was so bad it was funny. I going to wait for it to come out on Blu-ray before I buy.

Retromedia is planning a new dvd release of this movie (release date TBA), using the original 35 mm widescreen print! It will be anamorphic, and should by all accounts be a very nice release. Check out Retromedia's website for more details!

On the other hand, you can check out the Film Crew version, if you want to see the results of "so bad, it's funny".
