    Hi!

I have a Panasonic DMR-E55EB-S, which I think is a UK Version, and I've taken it with me to Central Europe.

Now here the city cable TV runs through standard TV aerial cable -- with all the channel frequencies sent through it -- there is no cable Set Top Box. The problem I have is the Recorder won't pick up the stations. I'm guessing the tunner doesn't support VHF? VHF-3? It only picks up a few UHF stations but no sound, just crackle. The Auto Tune doesn't give any frequency selection it's just all automatic.

As there is no STB to use Scart AV Input to pick up the stations; is there another way to get these stations through my recorder so I can record?

    Any help appreciated!!

    Thanks.

Slovenia is PAL, so the signal type is not the problem if your unit is UK version? It's going to DVB-T in 2012, so maybe there's a digital signal already in prep for that???

Yes it's PAL -- but the tunner isn't for digital of course. If I'm not mistaken the "free" non-digital stations in UK are in UHF -- but I need VHF, etc. So I'm stuck how to get the recorder to see these stations if the signal ONLY comes through "old" aerial cable.

As the recorder doesn't have the correct internal tuner, you have two options. Replace it with a model that does, or get an external tuner (even a old VCR with the proper tuner will work). The major drawback to the external tuner, is you will have to record on one of the Line-In inputs and all channel changing will need to be performed manually on the external tuner hardware which limits your programming recordings options.

    Thanks for reply Krispy.

    Panasonic told me this too:

Please be aware that a DVD recorder purchased in the UK would not be fully operable abroad due to the differing broadcast systems between the countries. The tuner is for British signals only.
Grrrrrrr... I was thinking of hooking up a VCR, but hoped there was a better way to do it.

    Thanks again.
