    Hello again everyone!

My question this time could be simple, could be very complex. I don't really know.

I have a camera (Canon HV20) that shoots in 24P at 1080i. In Premiere, my editor of choice, it has presets for 24P projects, and for 1080i projects, but when I edit in the 24P project, I have to super reduce the image to get it down to fit into the screen, and in 1080i projects, the only available framerates are 25 or 29.97.

I've tried making a custom project thing, but the options stay at 25 or 29.97, and 24 or 23.976 (or whatever those decimals are) are not options at all.

Is there a way to rig Premiere to have a project that's both HDV 1080i AND 24P?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Very complex unless you have experience doing inverse telecine with odd cadence.

The HV20 and other 24F camcorders must pad out 24 fps (23.976p actually) to 29.97 1080i by adding fields. Their priority for adding fields is to minimize jerky direct 1080i playback rather than making inverse telecine easy. Pro 24p camcorders on the other hand use a 24PA process that is supported by Premiere Pro CS3 and Vegas.

    24p/24pa explained.

For the HV20/HV30 see this overview/tutorial.

I haven't looked for other solutions since Nov. I was hoping the Vegas 8b update would add HV20-24f support.

I hope someone else has a more streamlined method.
