Finding real Taiyo Yuden DVD+R or DVD-R DL?
I have just finished reading a myriad of posts and FAQs about fake Taiyo Yuden media and how to tell if you got the real thing or not but most of it involves looking at serials on individual disks and media codes which doesn't seem like it would be as much of an option at Best Buy etc.
My question is: Are there any (reasonably priced) online places i can go that other users have sucessfully bought real 100 pks of either "YUDEN000 T02" or (maybe) "TYG11"? Speaking of TYG11, i have tried to find reviews or *something* about their quality but i can't seem to find anything, anyone heard if there are any problems with these disks?
Any help would be greatly appricated!
Cheers

If you mean in the US, http://www.rima.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv and http://www.supermediastore.com/index.html are dependable. Also http://www.meritline.com/
I haven't heard of 'TYG11'. This is the TY media we have listed: https://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia?dvdmediasearch=Taiyo+Yuden&dvdmediadvdridsearch=&typ...+or+List+Media If you mean 'TYG01.......' , that's hard to find as they mostly sell the higher speed media.
And welcome to our forums. -
To add a little to redwudz's post...
Taiyo Yuden can't be bought in stores in the USA as far as I know. While sometimes you get lucky and they make media for companies like Sony, whose discs you can buy in stores, you have to mail order to get TY discs. I usually buy from Rima.com but I have bought from supermediastore before.
TY does NOT and NEVER HAS made DL media of any kind. I would like to strongly discourage you from using the DVD-R DL discs. The whole format is kind of kludgy in my opinion. You're really better off to burn DVD+R DL by Verbatim, but if you must try the DVD-R DL discs, only buy Verbatim and do note that the DVD-R DL requires some special settings for the layer break that are completely different from DVD+R DL discs. ImgBurn can burn these discs correctly if you set the layer break manually and it has a setting to attempt to do it for you automatically that might work, but I've never tried it. I really don't like the DVD-R DL format and I can't recommend it. If you burn with something other than ImgBurn, don't be surprised if the discs fail at the layer break. I know how to set the layer break manually, but I don't talk about it because I don't want to encourage people to use this format. DVD+R DL is far superior and cheaper than DVD-R DL. You'll have to mail order DVD-R DL discs if you want them - because of their cost and the fact that few are manufactured, stores like Best Buy seem to not stock them.
For what it's worth, while I have used real TY media and I do like it, Verbatim is just as good in my opinion and lot easier to find if you don't want to mail order. -

Hey, Gen-An. Thanks for the post. I had no idea TY made any DL media since they sell none of it in the USA.
I'm not fond at all of the DVD-R DL media and I don't recommend it. The only program I know of that can correctly burn it is ImgBurn. The only time I ever messed with DVD-R DL discs, you had to set the break point manually on these discs and you could NOT use the method that DVD+R DL uses. ImgBurn now has a setting that MIGHT automatically correctly detect the layer break on -R DL discs, but I have never used it and thus I cannot say that it works.
DVD-R DL discs are quite expensive and hard to find in addition to being difficult to burn correctly. Unless you have a very good reason for using them, I'd use the +R DL discs instead. If you must use -R DL discs, use Verbatim. At least in the USA you can find them, unlike the Japanese made TY -R DL discs. -
