I just purchased a new JVC video camera and when I put the videos onto my computer it saves them as a MOD file. Then when I go to email the video (which is the main reason i bought a camcorder with a hard drive) it tells me the file is too large. How do I covert this MOD file to something small enough I can email. Please help!

Doesn't it come with any software? Like Cyberlink PowerProducer, it should be able convert your mod files to smaller mpg or avi files.

Or you maybe can just rename it to mpg and try convert with windows movie maker to wmv or to avi divx/xvid using Autogk.

    1. Rename the file extension from .mod to .mpg (I have two everios, works every time).

    2. The rest is up to your ISP: You're limited by the file size. Do as Baldrick says, Baldrick is all wise (and quite correct).

file/import/media file. then drag it down to the timeline. click produce up top. many choices here, but try streaming file/wmv/then click the down arrow tab and select something like wmv9 for local area network. if the output filesize shows up as more than 10mb the file needs a lower bitrate or it's too long. you can try a preset with lower kbps or cut the video into a smaller piece. 10mb is about as big as you can email.

Alright... I finally got the MOD file conveted to a AVI. Now I want to send this file (video) in an email. Does anyone know how to do this? I try sending it thru my aol email, and it say the file is too large. (this is the whole reason i thought I needed to convert this file into an AVI to make it smaller) The video is only 2 mins long and it 240mb. I tried compressing the file, but that made it only 195 mb, still too big. I almost want to go back to the store and return this video camera! The biggest reason i bought this camera was to be able to send videos to my family. Anyone have any ideas?

Did you click Produce? Then you should be able to choose wmv and choose bitrate settings.

Or are you using something else?

    And READ THE HELP files!!

Yes I hit Produce", i wasnt able to to choose WMV, i chose AVI, then changed "profile name" to "long play", it says this way it can be used as an email attachment. i did not see anything about bitrate settings, so i was unable to chnage that, i finished the file, and it was alot smaller, but still as 86 mb i am unable to send it in an email. I've read thru the Help files, and no help there. Should i just give up now?

Hi. I have a question about converting mod file to avi or mpeg.
I'm trying to import videos to Premiere.
I used Victor hard disk drive camera GZ-MG40-S.
But Premiere doesn't recognize it and I can not capture those videos.

And I renamed those files to avi and mpeg.
The mpeg file lost audio. And the avi file doesn't play the image right.

Does anyone have a suggestion to solve this problem?

    Thanks,

    Nancy
