I'm new to the HD scene but have recently seen a bunch of these .mkv files floating around.
I already have my iMac connected via VGA to my my Plasma HD TV and know how to convert/burn/play them
using VisualHub,Toast,VLC etc... But what I want to know is there something more I can do to get the quality as
good as an original Blu-ray/HD DVD to view or play on my HD TV via .mkv?
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

Almost every 1080p movie that is about 5 GB has been downsized when looking at bitrate, so you'll never get the Blu-ray/HD DVD quality when downloading a pirate HD-movie. If you want REAL HD you should download the 1080p MKV's that are about 30 GB. But that usually takes a while.
Aim for 720 in VLC/Mplayer/QT instead. -

That's why I say "720 plays better than 1080 and is less filling".
1080 is a HUGE waste of space and time at this point until you can burn 30GB to backup your Blu-ray HD DVD's.
Anyways, DVD's - HD DVD's etc are on their way out as most people are and will be able to watch anything they
want via Apple TV etc... Therefore, same old shit different year. -

But if you are playing with ripped Bluray then, a new receiver 7.1 is recommended .... you will have 7.1 surround sound via HDMI
But if you want to convert to MKV then you can use HandBrake... this is very good and easy to use.
