  1. As title...what tools would i need to do this. Wanna keep as close to the original dvd quality as possible but as an xvid or avi.

    Well you need to rip the DVD so the most obvious choice would be DVDFab HD Decrypter.

    For the DVD to AVI conversion the most popular tools are autoGK and avi.NET

    Also the makers of avi.NET make a program called pgc.NET which is very useful even if you decide to just use autoGK instead (which often times is the better choice than avi.NET).

    Basically DVDFab HD Decrypter rips the DVD into file mode. You then use pgc.NET to re-rip the section you want from the DVD (be it the main movie or a particular episode if it is an episodic type DVD etc.) then use autoGK or avi.NET to do the AVI conversion.

    Both will allow you to keep the original AC-3 audio or convert to MP3 format.
