    Hi there,
I was hoping that someone might be able to give me some step by step instructions on how to play avchd files(actually M2ts files) in windows media player. I have ffdshow installed, but I am a newb and don't know how to set things up to make wmp11 play the m2ts files. I want them to play in wmp11 because I want to use tversity to stream these files to my xbox360.

    Thanks for the help, Ron

    Another Question,
If I install coreavc do I need any other software to playback avc, and can I play back in wmv11 with coreavc?

    Thanks again. Ron

No you should be able to use wmp. You can also use ffdshow(free!) instead of coreavc.

    1) Install the latest FFdshow
    2) Install Haali Media Splitter
    3) Configure both as I described in the Nov 21 post.

    Done

CoreAVC is very good, but isn't free. It replaces ffdshow. You'd still have to install Haali

I have tried ffdshow and Haali Media Splitter before. They allowed for AVCHD playback but the video/sound are choppy, most likely due to my average (weak) PC. Since then, I have installed K Lite Codec Pack (freeware) and it allows for very smooth playback on my PC (using players like WMP, and VLC). If the ffdshow /Haali Media Splitter combo works for your PC, that is great, go no further. If you have choppy video/sound, try K Lite Codec at:

    thanks for the replys,
I do have a few more questions. I have loaded the ffdshow pack and haali media splitter, I have also set the paramaters like it said in the nov 21 post by soopa, however windows media player 11 still wont play m2ts files. I've tried opening them with wmp11 as they are...(.m2ts) , and I've also tried changing the file extension to .mpg. Niether have worked. I did notice that I have 3 or 4 different codec packs loaded on my computer. Could this be the issue? Also, is there a place in Wmp11 that I can tell it what codecs to use? Still learning about how to use codecs, so the detailed info is very helpful.
Thanks again for all the help.

It's been over a year, don't know if your problem was already solved.

I made the Windows Media Player 11 work with m2ts files on a 32 bit Vista by following this thread (installing fdshow & MatroskaSplitter), plus a little extra step.

After installing the two pieces of software mentioned above for codec, the Media Player needed to be associated with the new codec. To do so, I needed to modify the registry. Fortunately, there is a registry modification script on the net (see the link: http://a8t8.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!2518DD508BB713E8!240.entry) to do it for you. It worked after reboot.

    Hope this helps,
    Wendy

The link to the registry modification script is:

I put in a ")" at the end of the link in the last post by mistake.

I did get my .mts files to play in WMP11 but it is S-L-O-W. If I convert my files to some other format (ie: .avi) then I can view them in normal speed. Still, at least I can see what's on the video file
