Hello, First time user here. Thanks for the help in advance. I've got a Sony handycam DCR-DVD92 and I'm desperate to pull video off of it to my mac for editing. If I get the Canopus ADVC 110 converter will I be able to pull video from it? All I've got is AV cables so I figure if I can plug the AV cables into the converter I can send it via firewire to my Mac. Just wondering if anyone knows this is possible. Thanks in advance. Brian

Wouldn't it be easier to copy the DVD from the handycam to your harddisk, and start editing from there?

they are mini-dvd's that can't go into the mac. the only output from the digital camcorder are rca cables. kind of ridiculous.

    Yes your workflow is sound.
The camera since it only has analog,
will work like a VCR in that aspect,
going into the Canopus and then via FW into
    your mac.

I assume that the the modes on the camera are
the same as any: Record, VTR (Play), and Off.
If so, then VTR mode will play back through
    the analog cables just fine.

Now, you might think about cost: An external burner,
such as a Pioneer -112D in a firewire enclosure for
about $80 would be cheaper than a Canopus ADVC-110,
and would enable you to mount the mini dvd disc onto
    your mac for ripping. Something to think about;
if all you need the Canopus for is an interface for the camera,
this might be a cheaper alternative. However, if you also
have VHS tapes to digitize, then the cost of the Canopus
would be justified, because their would be more to do with it.
