Hey Folks.
I recently bought my dads laptop, which is just over 12 months old. Its got Windows XP Media Center edition installed, which I have been playing about with for the last month or so. I have a few recordings on there that I want to back up to DivX, has anyone dont this before? If so, what tools did you use? Windows XP Media Center records to a format called .dvr-ms, which I know absoulutely nothing about! If anyone could shed any light on this, id be very grateful!
Im using a USB Tuner made by SumVision, it is the T680 model. The software that comes with it is called TotalMedia, which was really poor at handling the incoming signals and playing back the programs it found, so I switched to the Media Center Software built into XP, and it works much better.

Convert to a standard mpg with videoredo or dvrmstoolbox and then convert to divx with AutoGK. Or convert directly from the dvr-ms to divx using tmpgenc xpress.

If you want to chop out the commercials etc I have found to VideoReDo to do an excellent job. Very straight foward to use. You can then save it out as an mpeg2 without doing any enoding (just fast copy) which takes a couple mins for a standard movie. Use what you want to convert to mpeg4-asp (Xvid, DivX etc)

Thanks guys. Ill give VideoRedo a try. I have in the past used a Pinnacle Blue Box and captured TV via an analogue signal on my old PC, then used VirtualDub to cut out just the TV episode and then rejoin those segments and deleting the original capture with the adverts. If VideoReDo does an easier job than that (though that is not difficult, just a little time consuming), then it will be worth the money!
Thanks again guys.Yours,
