I am posting this info for my girlfriend. I have recently gotten a Samsung DVD-VR357 VHS/DVD recorder. The main reason for getting this was to convert some old home movies over to DVD. The Samsung has the capabilities for creating menus and such but we want something better than that plus also edit out bad spots. The unit can record in "video mode" and "VR mode" depending on the disc we are using.
2 Questions.
1) If we want to import to a PC off of DVD for editing after recording, what would be the best mode to use?
2) What resonably priced software would you recomend for editing and DVD authoring?
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

Not sure about the first question, but you could look into VideoReDo for a simple editor that should serve your needs. Or MPEG Video Wizard or a all around editor/authoring program like MPEG Video Wizard DVD.
For freeware authoring GUI for dvd author works well or for a bit of money, DVD Lab or DVD Lab Pro.
But others should have some suggestions.
