    MPC installed, Haali installed, ffdshow installed.
    Settings in MPC: VMR9 (renderless), DX9 rendering for both others, 2D
    rendering.

    Playing XviD .avi file.

    Every time I try to use subtitles I'm told that I should use VMR9/7 etc
    etc. despite all appropriate output filters being active.

    Also: activating Haali as output filter causes loss of video stream.

    Any help greatly appreciated

    Never mind - it was the result of a bad driver for my Nvidia Fx Go 5300. Have changed the driver and the problem has been resolved.
