  1. Been here for ages - total n00b to H.264. I'm coming from DVD/DivX knowledge.

I'm looking for a x264 GUI that will help me archive my DVD's (and soon HD-DVD's) into a Mastroka container while keeping chapters and *selectable* subtitles available to use. (I think subtitles are supported in .MKV?) In other words, except for DVD motion menus that just waste time, a single .MKV file with all supported DVD features required - just subtitles and chapters. I want video in H.264 High profile 4.0 and have it compatible with the most playback devices available, like the Sage HD Extender, Xbox 360, DVICO HD players, etc.

Before I start encoding for days on end figuring it out, I thought I'd ask here first. Do any of the gui's like Handbrake, megui, ripbot264 or automkv do all this? I'm sure they *all* work fine for encoding video, but the chapter and subtitle thing may throw them. I also want to keep AC3 audio from the original DVD, so AAC is out as well as the .MP4 container. 'Must be .MKV.

    Suggestions?

I am looking into something similar, and although I haven't personally tried it yet, automkv should do all this

The author is very dedicated, and updates the program very frequently replying to feedback

  3. I'll look closely at AutoMKV. Thanks.
