Coby DVD-233 region free?

Just purchased a coby dvd-233(zone 1) for my daughter to watch her dvds from NZ(zone 4) and would like an unlock code/hack to turn this unit to multi zone.
we are curently in the Caribbean.
when we put in the DVD we get a 'invalid region' message.
I tried the hack on the site but only get 4 asterisks and no warning.
Any hints/ suggestions???

Not all players can be unlocked. Any known codes will be in the DVD Hacks section.

yep, i agree the hack for the Coby DVD-233 on this site does not work.

I work here on a cruise ship, so we're always in different regions!!

Need to get this one hacked hopefully!!

1. Turn on the player and open the tray.
2. Press MENU, 8, 8, 8, 8 on the remote. You should see 5 asterisks near the top left of your screen.
3. Press DISPLAY. A dialog box will show the current region code.
4. Press 0. A new dialog box shows 0 (region free) and a warning. Ignore the warning and don't press any keys on the remote.
5. Close tray using the remote control. Turn the device off and on again and enjoy your $30 player with any region code DVDs.

Verified with my DVD-233 that this works.

Some hacks only work for specific players (ie: a region 1 player and not a region 2 player) and some manufacturers lock the firmware on newer versions of an existing player to prevent the codes from working.

Your best bet is to get a player that is region free or get a player from a manufacturer such as Philips or Samsung that doesn't strictly enforce region codeing.

The 5 step process "kinda" worked on the Coby I got today (3/5) from FRY's in Palo Alto, CA.

There are 1 second pauses every 10 seconds or so when I play a european DVD.

This makes it unusable.

Thanks, it worked for mine, too. Bought 3/9/2009 at Fry's in Woodland Hills CA, vendor said it was region-free, I was about to return it, tried this, and it worked. Thanks again, and I am solely posting may someone else see that it worked for another person so they might try it themselves. My Japanese DVDs play perfectly now.

Try a Cyberhome 300s DVD player. It plays everything without any hacks. Might be able to find one on Ebay for a few bucks.
