    Hi there,

The scenario is: I have all the codecs installed (K-lite), fresh new Win XP install, 3GHz CPU enough RAM

I also tried encoding in DIVX (thru VirtualDub) with no success, it seems that VirtuDub is making the problem. Also the video looks crappy, thank god I'm using Lathe encoder right now (a $5 program, suprisingly good, but only limited to 640x480) where I can cut out unwanted video and use batch processing.

But I can't do anything with VirtualDub, encoding is faster in VirtualDub? Lathe only uses 50% of the CPU.

Can somebody tell me what could be happening?
    What am I doing wrong?
Everybody seems to be using VDub w/ any problems.

    What are your thoughts?

    Thanks
    Kbal

Tried AutoGK or avi.net? Unless you're really a guru at configuring the XviD codec, these apps do a better job than most mortals.

avi.net is OK once you figure out the interface, but you will get much better quality using AutoGK. At least I did without having to do a bunch of tweaking.

    Any suggestions?

    kbal,

Why don't you cut/edit commercials before you do your encoding?
    Have a good one,

VirtualDub. Just set audio and video to direct stream copy before your save out.

Yeah I can do that, but it will envolve more steps to make, that's why I like Lathe (to a point), its all in one pacakge, I'm not worried about saving new (edited) file with different name, then opening another program and encode it there, blah blah. Lathe has few steps, but not all the features, and possibly not the best quality video output. But yeah I'm trying to do that right now with VDub and then maybe encode with AutoGK or avi.net

I'll have to see what gives me the best quality output. Or later maybe just get the Archos 605 wifi (best video player there is) and not worry about any of that stuff.
