    Following the directions, I downloaded the mencoder and mplayer binaries, but when I click on link to mpeg2enc binary, I get a bunch of code gibberish; can't find the file. Any ideas?

    The "bunch of code gibberish" is the file.
    Try control-clicking the link and choosing "Download linked file" from the contextual menu.
