    HI I have a 4x NEC dvd rw nd-1300a it does + or - disk. I was wondering if any one knows what I this is "a firmware hack that allows dual layer dvd and an increase speed to 8x" does any one know where to get this? I have seen it before.
    I really want this.

    What you want is impossible. It reminds me of the people who used to ask for a firmware upgrade so their CD burners could burn DVDs. That's not how it works.

    I have the same NEC-1300 drive. It will burn DVD+R and DVD-R (and RW's), and at 4x, and that is all.
