How to play MPV?

no success...

Does BSPlayer can handle it?
if not, what does?

mpv is usually mpeg1 video and should work fine. But try identify what codec it is with mediainfo or gspot. You can also try play with vlc media player.

i dont have any codecs installed on my PC...
do you thing this is why BSPlayer cant handle this file?

Unless you're using a player with built-in codecs (such as VLC or mplayer), if you didn't have any codecs installed on your system, you wouldn't be able to play any videos at all.

As far as I'm aware, Windows XP should be able to play MPEG-1 video 'out-of-the-box' (in other words, you normally shouldn't need to install anything to be able to play it). Does it play properly in Windows Media Player?

Also, you might try (as an experiment) renaming the .mpv extension to .mpg, and then see if BSPlayer will play it without problem. But, as Baldrick suggested, it's still a good idea to run the .mpv through a utility like GSpot or MediaInfo, and make sure it's definitely an MPEG-1 video file.

It's MPEG-2 video. You don't have PowerDVD or some kind of a software DVD player installed? If not try VLC as recommended. Or install an MPEG-2 filter, like the Dscaler MPEG Filters. Then the BS Player should be able to handle it.

Yeah, that's what I was about to say. Well, about it being MPEG-2 video.

There are links to a few free MPEG-2 codecs/DirectShow filters in VideoHelp's Tools section... and ffdshow has MPEG-2 decoding capability as well, if you happen to have it installed. (It'll probably need to be enabled, though.)

it's not a normal mpg2, it's only the video stream portion. no audio. probably not even a correct size 544x480 is too tall and thin. should be 720x480 for a normal one.

a .mpv file is usually muxed with an audio stream to produce mpeg-2 video.

I've installed Dscaler MPEG Filters and managed to open it with BS...
even though Gspot still claims i "dont have Codecs Installed"...
