converting non-standard mpg2 to svcd mpg2

I just recently got my tuner working with powerVCR 3 deluxe. anyhow i'm first capturing using powervcr to an mpg2 file ('superior' setting in powervcr). file comes out fine.. just taht it gives me about 35 megs per minute.. while tmpg's encoding gives me 10.. so i wanna encode it to svcd standard mpg2. so i used tmpgenc, however the result looks MUCH darker than the original one. I'd also like to convert the mpg2 capture to divx but it seems that virtualdub doesnt' support mpg2? ( i get some filter error when trying to open the captured mpg2). can anyone help me out? TIA!
