I have a Panasonic PV-DV953 camcorder and am trying to capture thru Pinnacle studio 8 by way of IEEE 1394. I initially tried it two days ago. At first it had trouble initializing DV capture device, then started to capture. I stopped it, then started back again the next day. This time no capture device is recognized. I don't know if the cable is bad, or the camcorder is bad. I read somewhere that you should never unplug the firewire cable while the camcorder is powered up. I did not read this in my manual, though, so I don't know how true this is. I guess I should buy another firewire cable first to see if that is the problem. Has anyone else ever heard anything about powering down the camera prior to disconnecting the cable?

Hi,try and see if windows recognises the camera first and installs the drivers for it,the default ones for "texas instruments ohci compliant ieee 1394" in device manager with your camera showing there as well if you have them both you have to select through pinnacle,i once used the pinnacle ones during install but found they just caused trouble,if you can use windows default ones. p.s connect your camera without pinnacle running to check above.
