adjust or normalize volume ac3 5.1 sound of a movie

I want to join multiple clips of video (mpeg format with ac3/5.1 sound). The problem is these clips have different sound volume. How can I make the same volume for these clips? Is there such a software to do this job?

The process is called normalisation, and most audio programs can do it. Very few can do it to 5.1 AC3 however. You might want to look at Audition (adobe) or Sound Forge 9 (Sony Multimedia) as possible candidates.

Or perhaps Soopafresh has a script that can do it ?

Advantages -> It'll keep the 5.1 channels intact.

Disadvantages -> Demux AC3 --> Normalize with Script --> Remux

Muxman can mux the files, and can even author for you. However if you want to make life a little simpler, try GUIForDVDAuthor.

as you know, I demuxed mpeg/ac3, 5.1 video clips, then increased volume. Now I want to remux to get back those clips in the form of mpeg/ac3, 5.1 (already increased volume). I guess I will use dvd flick to authorize dvd. menus is not necessary.

How did you demux the AC3s to begin with?

I used avidemux2.4. It is clumpsy but at least it works and it is free. If you have a better one please let me know.

Use Rejig or DGIndex to demux the audio and video back to elementary streams, then you can remux with the corrected audio afterwards.

I found that batchdemux and muxman can do the job very quickly but the ac3gain could not read the files after the demuxing process to increase volume. I will try the new softwares you suggested.

The GGIndex doen't demux.The Rejig does but ac3gain can't read the ac3 file.
Can you technically compress a vob/meg/dvd file by 50% so that you don't have to convert it to avi format?

DGindex does demux. File->Save Project and Demux

You can squeeze the file. You can transcode the mpg with Rejig, or re-encode it with an encoder. Either way it is likely to reduce the quality substantially.

Try running your AC3 files through AC3Fix, then AC3gain. It sounds like they either aren't demuxing cleanly, or they were poorly encoded to begin with.

I ran my video clips with ac3 sound thru the Batchdemux, it works super fast. The problem is I only saw mono, dual channels, or stereo, never saw surround sound channels. Can you explain why?

After the demux ? I have never used BatchDemux, but assuming it is only demuxing then the audio will be unchanged. If you are getting a mono output then the source must have been mono. or it is not demuxing, but converting. Like I said though, I haven't used this program.

After demuxing all of mpg files by Batchdemux, I ran half of them (audio files) thru ac3gain to increase volume. The other half did not go thru ac3gain. This is where I am at:
_the files did not go thru ac3gain were remuxed by Muxman and became VTS_VOB files and ready for burning by 1clickdvd.
_the files that went thru ac3gain were not recognized by Muxman, but were remuxed by Imagomuxer and became VOB files which could not be burned by 1clivkdvd.
Do you know any software that can convert VOB to VTS_VOB files?
