FLV Videos Captured from AtomFilms Have Distinct Sync Problem...

Whenever I capture FLV videos from AtomFilms using "Replay Media Catcher", using RTMP:// they exhibit a strange sync problem that prevents me from converting the video to any other format.

I can view the videos in Replay's own FLV viewer with no sync or any other problems. When I view the FLVs in VLC, it exhibits a sync problem. The audio drops out and produces a stuttering effect as if VLC were trying to maintain the sync in the video. However, I find the stuttering to be a major problem - it is obviously not as intended.

Whenever I try to convert the FLV to MPEG2 (DVD-compliant) using TMPGEnc Xpress or any other of a whole slew of conversion applications, they each exhibit their own unique major sync difficulty. I have also tried ffmpeg and Mencoder to no avail.

I have tried different framerates (fps) settings to no avail.

I have tried "repairing" the FLV using Get FLV, which is supposed to regenerate the metadata for the file, but to no avail.

I imagine it is more a problem with the FLV file than the conversion applications. Does anyone have a solution? Thanks.

I viewed your FLV sample using Moyea's FLV free Player and it played fine without any problems. Hard to see whats in/out of sync with that particular video though as its quite blurry and not upclose. Still looked ok and sounded ok. Don't have my conversion tool here at work so can't try that (I used Moyea's FLV2MPEG converter), but don't see why it wouldn't work.

I have had trouble with mencoder in the past with FLV so I switched long ago to the one I mentioned above and never had problems with ANY FLV file.

Like I said, it seems to play in some commercial FLV players OK, but they should work across the board, even in VLC. Apparently there is a deeper problem that some FLV players know how to handle, but converters don't.

The latest alpha/beta Avidemux doesn't seem to recognize the audio. When I play the video the in the application, there is no audio. The output has no audio. I looked through the settings.

Also, in regards to sync in the sample video: you can't really see lips move, but you can observe the sound the bottle makes when it smashes over the customer's head. It just doesn't sync up upon conversion!

It looks perfectly in sync with FLV Player.

It's slightly out of sync. Do you have a link to the original file?

The new version of Virtualdub will edit FLV files if you get the FLV input plugin.

I converted to Xvid/MP3 with no problem but the audio is out of sync since the FLV file is out of sync (it did seem to be more out of sync if I reencoded the audio than if I direct stream copied it, not sure why). All of the supercompressed formats are varible framerate though so sync issues are hit and miss with all of these formats.

Also, since the audio was dubbed in after the video was shot, it's possible that they just messed up on the timing.

I also use FLV Player 1.3.3 to view FLV files although I do have 4 or 5 other FLV players.

I got the low quality one but it was in sync. After converting with VDub, it's a little out of sync. You could tell with the bottle smashing before it hits her head.

The best way to do these FLV files is to use a program called FLVExtract. It gives you a separate video and audio file that you can put together with VDub and everything will be in sync.

Also, I used a free program called Orbit to download the file. I usually just use URLSnooper2 but it doesn't do the rtmp protocol.
