    Hi All,

Is anyoune aware of a hardware box that will take a High Definition video signal, in composoit form and output to Firewire?

I am currently using a canopus ADV 55 with a PAL video camera and getting 720x576 video, but the canopus won't do HD.

There are two top end canopus boxes that take the HD input but the do not have a firewire output.

I would look at a PCI card that captures component HD too, if anyone has any suggestion.

    Thanks

    Vert

More detail needed for your goals. Do you mean firewire = 720x576 SD? Is the source a set top box?

    Firewire can carry
    - DV stream (720x576)
    - HDV stream (1440x1080 or 1280x720)
    - MPeg2 transport stream (SD or HD)
    - Networked streams or file transfers.

ATI's new Tv wonder cards have component inputs, but I haven't used one of them yet.

    HI All

Thanks for the response, i forgot i had posted this but the issue has come up again.

I need to get video from a Sony HD block camera, in to a PC.

I currently use a canopus converter (AVDC-55) to get Standard DVSD and auto into the pc via firwaire. I had to start using the canopus as it the only way to keep the A/V in sync.

Now i need to do the same but from a HD camera. The camera only has component output. I need to converter to take the audio as well to ensure sync.

Does anyone have any further suggestions of hardware that can do this?

    Thanks

Are you sure you are prepared for the high def bitrate?
See the discussions of the BlackMagic Intensity Pro.

Bottom line, a RAID is required for uncompressed capture or a fast computer is needed for real time compression to MJPEG. Cineform compression is a second option.

The Intensity Pro captures HDMI or component analog to the PCI bus. I'm not aware of an IEEE-1394 solution other than a camera that outputs IEEE-1394. At least not at consumer prices.

    Hi All,

    Just to update.

We have rulled out the blakmagic card due to other hardware required to run it. Big old SCSI RAID!!!

The HDV standard compresses the HD video to mpeg, at a datarate of 25Mbps, same as the DVSD that we capture from the canopus.

We are yet to find any hardware that windows recognises. Our Sony camcorder can output HD but we can only capture in Premier, with no preview, nothing else even finds the camera in HD mode.

    Thanks Everyone

Uhh, Vert, there's no such thing as a "composoit" (really spelled composite) connection that supports an HD signal.

For 1080p uncompressed, yes. However, 720p using the MJEPG will capture just fine to a clean (defragged) single hard drive.
    Have a good one,
