    Philips 1002 Portable DVD player. 18 months old but not used for the last 6 months.

    PROBLEM: will not play DVD's. Just get the "loading" message for 3-4 minutes and
    then turns off. Have tried several different movies.

    HOWEVER, CD's do play.

    I'm sorry to deliver bad news but your player is toast.

    I had the same problem with my Philips 642 standalone. I googled around and found the laser for DVDs going out of alignment but the CD laser being fine was a common problem for Philips. It's not worth getting fixed.
