I just got a Del W/S 19" monitor with a native resolution of 1440x900. I am running an ATI Radeon X300 graphics card on XP Home.

I go into the XP display settings in the control panel and there is an option for that resolution. But when I select it the screen goes all blocky and strange, then after a few seconds it reverts to the previous resolution.

I've been on the ATI site where in the list of resolutions it supports there is no 1440x900. I've also been to the Dell website where I've found this information:

The video cards listed below do not support a resolution of 1440 by 900 pixels on Dell™ desktop computers with factory-installed drivers. These systems were shipped prior to the availability of monitors supporting 1440 x 900 resolution.

    NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS
    ATI Radeon 1950XTX
    NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GX2
There is a 'Click here to enter the Drivers and Downloads page' link a little further down the screen, but there aren't actually any search results.

So I was wondering am I am on the right track, assuming that one of the graphics card drivers needs to be updated (if it CAN be updated), or is this a different problem?

    Any help appreciated.

Did you try the latest Radeon Graphics drivers? They should work. That would be pretty strange if they didn't.

Download Driver Magician Lite to backup your drivers before you try the new video drivers

    Here's the latest Radeon

There's got to be a solution for that. It just seems so...silly that the resolution isn't supported. Then again, nothing is surprising when it comes to video drivers.

These Omega drivers are reported to support 1440x900

I run a ATI 300 pci-express video card on a VIEWSONIC 19in widescreen with the latest drivers from ATI. It works fine with the 1440x900 resolution. So which ATI 300 video card do you have? Is it a AGP, PCI or PCI-EXPRESS? Or do you have another model video card in your pc?

Mine was set at 75Hz. I guess I'm lucky I didn't damage the monitor

    Cheers jagabo!
