    Which AVStoDVD release are you using?

    In the DVD Menu Editor section, have you tried the 'Full Preview' option?

    menu problem
    ------------------
    I've never created a menu before but thought I would give it a try using the excellent guide at http://club.myce.com/f32/avstodvd-guide-331620/

    (1) First, I added the asset streams (m2v) for 2 short titles which had been previously converted separately. Together they add up to fit on a DVD9 with room to spare, so size shouldn't be a problem.

    (2) Then I made a simple text menu via DVD Menu. Everything looked OK so I ran the project. Several command windows appeared, and finally muxman. Everything seemed normal, no errors.

    Unfortunately the resulting DVD has *no menu*, and only the first title is produced thereon. Doublechecking, I reloaded the a2d project and it looks the same as originally created. Both titles show OK as does the menu I created.

    So, it's not working. What now...?

    (AVStoDVD 2.7.2 on Windows XP)

    Not sure which one you mean, so here's two likely possibilities...

    Now this is really weird...

    It's working OK now. I didn't do anything. The first time I checked the output folder it was definitely incomplete, only about 4 GB which is the size of Title 1. When I played it with PowerDVD7, it was as I explained above -- no menu and only the first title appeared/played. Then after posting above and meditating for awhile, I checked it again and the output folder size had magically mysteriously increased to 7.25 GB! Playing it with PowerDVD7 works perfectly now, the menu and both titles are OK.

    Gremlins or dementia?

    P.S. The only way I can rationalize this is some kind of very slow, delayed script action...

    are you sure you have waited for AVStoDVD project completion (progress bar @100%) before checking the DVD?

    Anyway, from the project log file (.log) there are no major issues.

    Yes, absolutely 100% sure. I'm nothing if not methodical. When a project completes I always save a copy of the progress status window as a .png for documentation, before doing anything else. Here's the copy from this particular conversion...

    AVStoDVD Release 2.7.2

    Yes when i choose full preview option all it does is show a screenshot of the menu with the static thumbnail, looks normal. Whats it supposed to do? I then close out the menu editor and it says you sure you want to exit choose yes and it says menu enabled at the taskbar, instead of disabled.. yet when i check the finished conversion no menu.

    please check again and do attach here the file, do not just copy and paste the content.

    @wingfan

    the preview option is supposed to check if the DVD Menu can be created without faults. If you get the screenshot and it looks normal, very likely the static DVD Menu is ok.

    Have you tested the DVD with an external DVD player?

    BTW post here the last project log file with the issue.

    from the log file, the DVD Menu should working. Could you burn a DVD RW and check on the external player?

    @Denmark

    from the log file, the subs have been correctly extracted, encoded and authored to DVD. What player are you using to play the DVD? Have you activated the subs visualization?

    i dont have a dvdrw .. but something is missing on the AVS, look at the difference from ConvertX same project, notice the VTS_01_0.VOB in the convertx directory, and this is the menu screen.

    in AVStoDVD projects the DVD Menu is contained in the VIDEO_TS.VOB file. What does it happen if you copy the VIDEO_TS.VOB file, rename it to VIDEO_TS.MPG and play it?

    @Denmark

    from 'Preferences'/'AuthoringBurning' change DVD Subs Font size from 20pt to 16pt or 14pt.

    I have realized now ( I apologize... I'm becoming old...) that the subs format you are using is VobSub (idx/sub). VobSub format is already in raster (bitmap) format, hence its dimension is not altered by AVStoDVD, which can only alter the size of SRT/ASS/SSA formats.

    Maybe you can ask in the forum subtitles section how to change VobSub subtitles size (if possible).

    a subtitles font size problem
    ------------------------------------

    The original .mkv plays OK with both 1-line and 2-line subtitles having the same size font on my computer (VLC media player). However after conversion to DVD format with AVStoDVD, a smaller size font appears in the 2-line subs (VLC media playet, PowerDVD7, burnt DVD on my TV). Graphics below.

    The smaller font size in the 2-line subs is really too small for easy legibility on my TV. Also I would prefer that the same font size be used for both 1-line and 2-line subs.

    My subs settings in AVStoDVD preferences > authoring/burning are Tahoma 16pt, 80 from left border, 110 from the bottom, width 560.

    How to fix?

    16 is pretty small. I make mine (for 4:3 movies) at 22 or 23, also using Tahoma. Also, 80 from the left border is a lot. I usually make mine 10 from both left and right. You're liable to get some 2-line subs turned into 3-line subs if you're not careful (and if you use a larger size for the subs)

    I changed the subs settings in AVStoDVD then remuxed from the saved assets which had no effect whatsoever! That's the only practical way because it takes over 14 hours to do a complete conversion of this .mkv. However it would seem that the subs size & position was already set in the assets by the original conversion. That makes it very difficult (almost impossible) to experiment.

    Thus... some kind of scientific method is needed to set the subs precisely and correctly the first time, not requiring a lengthy hit & miss process of experimentation with the numbers, trying to hit upon the correct numbers by magic. Is there such a primer somewhere?
