    good suggestion to have an audio preview before choosing the track. +1 on ToDo list. Do you still have the file that had given you trouble? If yes may you upload them anywhere to have a test?

    @KevinSartori

    the "countdown" inputbox is a nice idea. +1 on ToDo list. About using hardware acceleration, we should address the request to the encoders (HCenc, QuEnc, Aften, FFmpeg) authors. Would you like to take this action item?

    Thanks for adding the "countdown" inputbox idea to the ToDo list! I look forward to it!

    I knew that hardware acceleration has more to do with the encoder authors than you, but I didn't know if you'd heard if any of them were working on it or not. It looks like the last beta of HCenc was released over ten months ago, so maybe they're not even updating anymore!

    I've just run into a problem with a couple of files that are giving me the same error in HCenc:

    ERROR, incompatible input, use ConvertToYV12() or ConvertToYUY2()

    I tried changing the AVS Source Filter from A2DSource to AVISource, but I got the same incompatible format error. When I tried changing the AVS Source Filter to DirectShowSource, HCenc throws a really quick error about YUV and divisible by 2. Here's that part of the DVD_0.log:

    Code:
    <4/27/2012 9:20:18 AM>
    AVISYNTH SCRIPT
    Import("C:\Program Files (x86)\AVStoDVD_242_NoInstall\Lib\A2DSource.avsi")

    Video = A2DVideoSource("C:\Users\Sartori\Downloads\Temp\movie.avi", CacheFolder="C:\Users\Sartori\AppData\Local\Temp", FrameRate=23.976, VFR=false)
    # Audio is frameserved by AviSynth just for Preview and Edit purposes.
    Audio = A2DAudioSource("C:\Users\Sartori\Downloads\Temp\movie.avi", CacheFolder="C:\Users\Sartori\AppData\Local\Temp")

    Video = Video.ConvertToYV12
    #Using DGPulldown/HCenc to upsize FPS
    Video = Video.AddBorders(0,53,0,53)
    Video = Video.Lanczos4Resize(720,480)
    Does the problem have to do with the fact that AddBorders is 53 pixels high? Is there something I can do on my end to fix it? Any ideas? Thanks!

    Also, I remember a few versions ago, the DVD assets path would automatically default to the same directory as the Output Folder. I know I can change the path by going into Preferences, but it's easier if I want to keep temporary DVD assets files to not have to change that path every time. Any chance you could bring it back to how it used to work?

    Thanks again, MrC!

    I would address the issue to AviSynth that somehow has been messed up. Try to uninstall AviSynth and re-install it. Then run again the AVStoDVD project.

    Just go to 'Preferences'/'Paths' and select same folder for DVD Assets and DVD Output. Then toggle on 'Save current preferences as default' and press OK.

    I had AviSynth 2.5.8 installed, so I uninstalled it and installed the latest 2.6a3. Unfortunately, I still got the same incompatible error in HCenc. I have a very basic understanding of how AviSynth scripts work, but when I was looking at the AviSynth tab in AVStoDVD, I noticed:

    Code:
    Video = Video.ConvertToYV12
    Remembering the error, I changed it to:

    Code:
    Video = Video.ConvertToYUY2
    Success! The video converted without error!

    For what it's worth, I first experimented with changing:

    Code:
    Video = Video.AddBorders(0,53,0,53)
    to an even number:

    Code:
    Video = Video.AddBorders(0,52,0,52)
    That worked as well, but it occurred to me that I was probably slightly distorting the image this way, so I tried Video.ConvertToYUY2. I don't actually know the difference between YV12 and YUY2, but I burned the result to DVD and it played fine in my standalone Blu-ray player.

    MrC, so you have any insight on what's happening here? It's just strange because I've converted dozens of videos for friends and never run into this particular problem. Thanks again!

    I had to move on from avstodvd because paid projects don't wait.
    I used Henc and dropped them into another authoring ap.
    I was never able to figure out what happened.

    HCenc supports both YV12 or YUY2 input, I cannot understand why it is refusing, for that project, the YV12 and not the YUY2. Quite weird. Do you have the possibility to upload the AVI file (or a portion of it, you can trim it with Avidemux) anywhere to test it? That could be interesting also for hank (HCenc author).

    @zoobie

    wrong input ColorMatrix setup?

    Is it possible another codec was used for the decoding in AVStoDVD, Vs. the codec used while encoding directly in HCenc?
    For example, directshowsource Vs. AVIsource.

    Hi _MrC_:

    During the authoring phase, there is a fair amount of screen-switching to a full-screen Command Prompt session window, where you see the ongoing output from Muxman, Aften, and maybe some other stuff. If I'm browsing or dealing with some email at the same time -- for example -- this pre-emptive window switching gets to be kind of annoying. Are there any AVS settings to suppress these involuntary window changes . . . or maybe instead to just shunt all that output off to a log where one can review it later, if there should be any reason to ? If this is not possible now, could this be implemented at some point as program options ?

  11. Hi Seeker47

    that item is already in the ToDo list. Unfortunately some programs do not easily accept to run minimized (i.e. QuEnc), but I'm working on that issue.

  12. Hi!

    First of all, thank you very much for the great application!

    I was wondering why does AVStoDVD not use PullDown automatically for 23.976 sources?
    I noticed that if the PullDown is not applied then MuxMan does not accept the m2v file.

    Best regards,
    Mateo

    Well, it does. Have a look at the project log file for evidence. If you still have doubts, post here the log file.

    As you can see the file is rejected by MuxMan. But when I process the file by DGPullDown then MuxMan accepts the file without any problems.
    By default AVStoDVD chose QEnc for my little sample, so I tiered to choose HcEnc manually but it did not bring any changes.
    But when I manually added the *PULLDOWN command to the edited HcEnc's script then everything went well and the authoring process finished successfully.

    That's why I was not sure if the auto-pulldown feature was implemented.

    BTW, thanks for the new version!!

    Regards,

  16. Hi Mateo,

    there's something wrong in the input file framerate reading, since it is reported as 0 fps

    1. Try to change the decimal separator from <,> to <.> in the international settings

    2. If the problem still remains, send me the sample avi (avstodvd@gmail.com)

    Indeed, changing the decimal separator solved the problem
    I remember I had the similar problem in my modest application which I develop (for AVI to AVI recompression).
    Changing the international registry settings is not the best idea but obviously encoder's scripts require the international (US) version of the decimal mark.
    I'm coding in Delphi and before parsing commands to encoders or avs scripts I use the following code:
    Code:
    framerate := ReplaceStr(UnformattedFPS, FormatSettings.DecimalSeparator, '.');
    BTW, I have a few questions about AVS scripting but they are not directly related to this topic, so, if you don't mind I will contact you using the email you provided.

    thanks for the feedback about the decimal separator. As a matter of fact, the different separator is already handled in the code by AVStoDVD, but in your case the "23,976" is not detected as number var.

    I will glad to ask to your question by email, or here, if the topics may have interest for the community

    I tried to open several valid AVI files with "23,976" FPS and they are all detected as "0".
    Isn't the var handled by MediaInfo? MediaInfo always returns strings, right?

    Hi _MrC_,

    Something like this hasn't happened for awhile, but on the last job QuEnc died midway with an error ("has encountered a problem and cannot continue. Send a report ?"), apparently because of the audio comtent. I don't recall where the report is supposed to go if you answer 'Yes' -- probably to MS, but useless in any case, so I always answer 'No.' You've always been extraordinarily helpful, but I really hesitate to bother you with the download of the 2x 715Mb. pieces of this (I was encoding for DL-size media), particularly with a case that is not all that important. But I do still have the log file, which I could easily send you. Would that be of much use ?

    It is possible this was one of those deals where if I bailed on the error, the encoding would switch to use of Aften (?) and then continue . . . but I didn't think so at the time; it had a somewhat different feel to it. As usual, I had my alternate program for taking this job to DVD, though it surely wasn't as good an output as with AVS. (How could it be, at half the output size that it should have been ?)

    Mediainfo returns vars as strings, you are right, but AVStoDVD has to convert them to number. Somehow in your system the conversion is not correct. Unfortunately I cannot replicate the issue, as you can see from the link I've posted.

    @Seeker47

    have you tried to force HCenc instead of QuEnc in the last project? Same result? The log file is always useful.

    Should have tried that, but haven't done so yet. In any case, this is probably a QuEnc problem, rather than an AVS problem. (Hasn't QuEnc been at 0.75 Alpha -- or whatever -- for a very long time ? Is it still actively under development ?)

    Right, by the way it is still one of the best CBR mpeg2 encoders.

    have a fullscreen TV show (Twilight Zone) on bluray which Mediainfo reports is 1920*1080 (16:9). In AUTO, Avstodvd sees this as widescreen, and HCenc will encode in 16:9. I changed the "Edit Title" setting to "Fullscreen 4:3" but that letterboxed the results by adding borders (180) to top and bottom. I encoded that way to see how the video looked - quite stunning and the two audio tracks synced perfectly (maybe the progressive video made syncing easier).

    Anyway, I'd like to get rid of the letterboxing next time I encode. I deleted the Addborders line in the AVS script but left the 720x480 resize, and the preview looked abit squished (tall and thin), so I cropped each side by 240. I got "240" by entering larger crop numbers in the AVS script until there was no "Addborders" line generated. Preview looks fine, but I have no idea if what I'm doing is correct - maybe I should be leaving some borders for overscan?
    Thanks for any help.

    I am a bit confused: if the source TV show is 16:9 widescreen, why do you want to change the display aspect ratio to 4:3?

    as I wrote, old full screen TV show but the blu is apparently widescreen, and HCenc would encode widescreen if I left the Auto settings. I'm not very experienced with bluray - only have these discs and no blu player. Maybe all bluray dvds are widescreen, regardless of the original DAR, and borders are added to keep the appearance of the original DAR?

    Someone else had a similar problem in the thread, and eventually deleted the Addborders/Resize lines in the script. His discussion starts here with issue # 4. I kept the resize line:

    I have a blu question unrelated to your program, but maybe you have some advice. I'm only ripping some of the short bonus videos on these discs because they arent available in SD. Many of them dont show up when I run HD Stream Extractor, or Clown BD, even though they are on the disc, in the menu. Any advice how to access them to rip?

  27. If I have correctly understood the original TV show was 4:3, but the blu-ray release is 16:9 with left and right letterboxing (black column).

    Your purpose is to have a DVD with 4:3 DAR and without the left and right letterboxing.

    Am I right? If yes you can do the following:

    1. Load the source file
    2. Go to 'Edit Title'/'Video' and select 'Standard 4:3' as Video Aspect Ratio
    3. Go to 'Edit Title'/'AviSynth', toggle off 'Auto AviSynth Script'
    4. Select 'Crop' and enter 240 pixels for left and right cropping
    5. Verify output with 'Preview Title Output'

    yes, that's the situation and solution which I described in my first post. However, I thought video usually had some left/right borders (8-10 pixels) for overscan. 240 eliminated all border. So I only cropped something like 230, and let the script generate a small top/bottom border as well.

  29. Sorry, I missed the "cropping" part.

    Overscan was usually inserted for old CRT TV, latest (good) flat panel display all the image. Adding a canvas to the image is a personal flavour.

    About ripping "hidden" DVD sections, have you tried with DVDFab HD Decrypter and DVD Shrink? There is also a DVD parsing tool in AVStoDVD, but it is just an experiment and not so sofisticate as dedicated utilities.

    AVStoDVD question: I'm trying to download my home videos from my Panasonic PV-GS300 digital vid camera, which is mini DV tapes, and burn to DVD's. I have downloaded AVStoDVD 2.5.8 and ImgBurn 2.5.5.

    *Why do so many recommend doing the disk burning process on ImgBurn when I see that AVStoDVD has a "Burn DVD" option on the OutPut tabs drop menu ?

    *Does AVStoDVD manage the process of downloading from my camera to my hard drive or do I need an additional program to do that?

    * Should I be unclicking the "Keep MPEG2 compliant video" box in the Preferences , Video tab?

    I have created menus and put together a 4.7 gb DVD worth of video. But when I burn it both my home dvd player and my computer dvd player say this type of format not recognized. There are so many control choices for my knowledge level I'm sure I have made selections that are wrong. Not only that, I downloaded the vid footage using another software....aaahhh!
