Problem is, the calculated video bitrate stayed the same (6509).
Correct, video bitrate adjustement routine does not start when selecting WAV/PCM audio format.

Dave, coldfusion11, thanks for the bug report

Thanks for the help all! Im surprised to find myself reporting such specialized problems and then realizing I found a bug in the program. I feel so special I have been having good luck now only using MP2 to convert audio. Usually using either quenc or FFMpeg for the Audio decoder. I will report back when I run into any other problems.

  3. Hello,

I need some help. AVStoDVD keep crashing when it gets to the authoring stage. I have installed AVStoDVD 2.4.1 with ffdshow beta 7. No other codecs installed. I would really like to use this program as the menu wizard is just brilliant! Thanks in advance. Here is the log file.

  4. For some reason MuxMan (the authoring sw) cannot write on output destination. I would suggest to try to change the Output from 'C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\My Videos' to somewhere else, better if on another drive partition (if any).

  5. Thanks for your reply MrC. I tried your suggestions, changing the output to "E:". I had the same results. I then put the source files on "D:", so that AVStoDVD is on C drive, source files are on D drive, output is on E drive. It still fails on muxing. I have all of the working files if anything else could help diagnose the problem. Thanks for your help. Here is the only log file generated.

  7. Hi MrC,

It fails on other computers with other source clips. Log is below. I am running an Nlight version of WindowsXP. Does MuxMan depend on any Windows services? The custom version of Windows I run has many of the services stripped out. Could this be the problem? Thanks for your help.

Is there a known issue with some HD sources (1920 x 1080 .Wmv, would be a good example) that causes the encoder (probably talking about QuEnc here -- not sure if this would also appy to HCenc) to slow down to a crawl, causing the job to take many hours to complete ? I've seen some where it ran overnight and was still crawling 8 hours later.
When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ -- with over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this quintessentially American art form.

  9. I have no problems with the encoding part of the process. It produces the elementary streams correctly. In fact I can load these elementary streams into DVDstyler, and produce an iso or dvd structure folders with no problems. AVAtoDVD always crashed during the authoring stage. That's why I was wondering if MuxMan is dependent on any Windows services.

What is the "other computers" OS?

Address this question to MPUCoder, author of MuxMan: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=157866

BTW, do you have the possibility to upload the clip you are trying to convert?

MrC, I was using version 4 beta I believe and it worked well. Then, I updated XP with SP3, added a few media players to test them out, came back to it about a year later and AVStoDVD had made all the video into B&W with colored bands in it. I have no idea what happened even after a re-install. Do you?

  13. Hope someone can answer this. I am using AVStoDVD to convert 1080p or 720p videos to DVD-5 size to put on a standard DVD-R. Is there any benefit to using the 1080p source file over the 720p file? Will the final outcome have a quality difference? Thanks a ton! Love your program MrC.

  14. Hi,

Love AVStoDVD but need some help.

In the log file, what do numbers stand for after "AC3 audio encoder:"?

I've been trying to convert a mkv file. video nicely converted but no audio. but then after reading here, I tried ticking off the "keep AC3/... DVD compliant audio", then got a successful full convertion.

Now, I'm trying others convertions but can't get the audio again...even when keeping all preferences settings as with the successful convertion.

I compared the log files, and all un-successful convertions show "output audio info" with 6Ch instead of 2Ch.

    How can I solve that?

Many thanks for help and also (most importantly) for this new software...
    V.

    0 -> Wavi+Aften
    1 -> FFmpeg+Aften
    2 -> QuEnc
    3 -> FFmpeg only

  17. In both projects there are conflicts between the AC3 audio encoder selected and the AviSynth script produced, probably because you have changed the AC3 encoder AFTER adding the title.
    Let's make some order.

    0. Reset your project OR restart AVStoDVD
    1. Go to 'Preferences'/'Audio'
    2. Toggle off 'Keep DVD Compliant Audio'
    3. Select 'Wavi+Aften'
    4. Add the title to be converted

If you want to use another AC3 encoder, FIRST select the new encoder (i.e. QuEnc), THEN add the title.

One of AVStoDVD main rule is that Preferences have to be set up before to start any project. In fact a message popup warns you when you make Preferences changes with a project already initialized.

Input audio is 6ch, output audio is 6ch. What's wrong with it?

From the log file everything is OK. What about the resulting DVD?

  21. Well, I thought I needed 2Ch for DVD, but I was wrong:
    • PCM: 48 kHz or 96 kHz sampling rate, 16 bit or 24 bit Linear PCM, 2 to 6 channels, up to 6,144 kbit/s. N.B. 16-bit 48 kHz 8 channel PCM is allowed by the DVD-Video specification but is not well-supported by authoring applications or players.
    • AC-3: 48 kHz sampling rate, 1 to 5.1 (6) channels, up to 448 kbit/s
    • DTS: 48 kHz or 96 kHz sampling rate, 2 to 6.1 channels, Half Rate (768 kbit/s) or Full Rate (1,536 kbit/s)
    • MP2: 48 kHz sampling rate, 1 to 7.1 channels, up to 912 kbit/s
However, with the successful converted file, 6Ch has been converted in 2Ch, and VLC can play it. VLC won't play the audio of all convertion attempts that give me a 6Ch audio output, so that's maybe my problem, is it?

I haven't tried burning on disk and read with a standalone DVD player, but I assume that VLC is reading DVD folder as if it was a DVD?

update: maybe I'm stupid? (don't answer that )...I don't have a 6Ch audio output on my pc, but shouldn't VLC play the audio anyway? how could I convert the audio of the converted DVD into 2Ch?
update2: I'm listening with stereo headphones, therefore I guess I will never hear the 6ch audio...
still how did AVStoDVD converted into 2Ch once and not anymore?

I've seen some where it ran overnight and was still crawling 8 hours later.
    Not known by me.

Long encoding may be caused by poor codecs, CPU already loaded by other apps, avisynth script with many filters calls.

I don't use VLC, so I don't know how it downmix 6ch to 2ch. Burn the DVD (RW, I suggest) and play it on your standalone player and use your ears with your 5+1 system to check if everything is OK.

Moreover, as I told you before, be careful how your directshow AC3 decoder mixer is setup. See FAQ/Audio/Q4.1 for more details.

  24. ok, thanks. I indeed need to buy some DVD+RW to do some test.

In the mean time, I don't understand why from the same source, I got 2 conversions: one into 6CH and one into 2CH...that's weird, isn't it?

also, the source file (DTS, 6CH) is read w/o problem by VLC, and I have other DVDs with 6CH audio that VLC also reads w/o prob. So, I assume something went wrong during the conversion.

Finally, I had AC3Filter installed as I thought I needed it, but then I un-installed it...maybe it's a problem, what do you think?

    Many thanks for your help.

If you have already installed another AC3 directshow decoder (i.e. ffdshow), then you don't need AC3Filter, otherwise you do.

A2DAudioSource is part of A2DSource.avsi, an AviSynth script I have developed some years ago. For more details see Help/How to use it/Preferences Window/AviSynth/AviSynth Source Filter.

  28. Under Edit Title – Avisynth –tab is an ”Amplify Audio” –option. It opens a window which says

Insert Audio Amplify factor (in decibel).
Values > 1 mean volume gain.
Values < 1 mean volume decrease.

However, if I try to reduce the volume by giving a value -4, I get the warning:
    “Invalid value entered”.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug?
    (AVStoDVD version is 2.4.2.)

Yes, that's a bug. With current release you can do only volume increase. If you want to decrease volume, you have to manually edit the AviSynth script.

Next release will have the fix. Thanks for the report.

  30. First of all I want to say a big THANK YOU to Mr_C for creating AVStoDVD! I very much appreciate it.

Second, I don't know if my question has been asked before as there are 25 pages of responses on this thread, so I will just go ahead and ask.

I used AVStoDVD to make a great many DVDs but lately I have been getting an error when I go to play them in a dvd player saying "No Disc". It is only on one project that I have been working on a long time now so I imagine it has to do with one of the files.

I have 15 WMV files that end up each as their own title. I also am using a jpg for the background and am doing quite a bit of adjustments to font color, outline, and Bold from what the defaults are. One thing I noticed is that if I take all of the default properties off the font (bold, Outline, Italics, etc) then go to another title's text, then return to the text I altered previously it puts the Bold button back as active.

Anyway, all of this used to be ok and burned fine til I started making small changes to the wmv files, and placing the new versions into the folder where AVStoDVD pulls them from.

Any help on this would be much appreciated as I have probably thrown 10 dvd's away now.

P.S. - I can take the "No Disc" dvd and put it into my computer and it will play fine.

P.S.S. - I have also noticed that sometimes the dvd player will recognize the dvd as such, but takes a long time to spin and spool before it can determine it is indeed a dvd...

    Thank you!
