Suppose I need to go +3 sec.s on the subtitles (so they will appear earlier, to have better sync with the spoken dialog). How self-evident is that procedure going to be, if I try to arrange it with AVS settings ? Or is it better to do this in advance, by using SubtitleCreator on the .SRT file ? Is there a good way to preview / test the result of this re-sync, before AVS spends an hour or so processing this out to DVD-structure files ?
When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ -- with over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this quintessentially American art form.

again: could you post the <F:\P_7\The.Perfect.Host.2010.1080p.MKV.AC3.DTS. NL .Subs\The.Perfect.Host.2010.1080p.MKV.AC3.DTS.NL.S ubs\The.Perfect.Host_0_BatchMux.log>?

    @Seeker47

not straightforward but possible: add your title, add your SRT, then go to 'Edit Title'/'Subtitles', toggle off 'Auto Subtitles Setup', toggle on 'Hard Encoded', then preview.

So, it is required to designate a particular player to be used for the Preview function ? In that case, what about VLC ?

I like MPC-HC, but I keep coming back to VLC. It's basically my 'Go To' player, though MPC-HC would be a close second choice.

  21. I have a problem with .mkv files.

I start a new project, add source file. Selection for subtitle comes up. I select none but the output file always has subtitles hardcoded into them.

ie I cant turn them off in MPC-HC etc.

I might be missing something simple here. Any help appreciated.

It may be being picked up by directshow. If you have a subtitle in the same folder as the movie, and the same name,
    for example:
    mymovie.mkv and mymovie.srt.
rename the subtitle so that it has a different name than the MKV file and it wont be picked up.

  23. Using AVStoDVD 2.4.2 I burned a movie from AVI and found that the resulting video played back like people and camera are moving in slow motion - though it runs at normal speed. It's hard to describe - as if there are frames missing, producing a kind of choppy, unnatural movement of people and things in the movie. This happens both playing back the dvd on my tv and when playing from the VIDEO_TS file on VLC media player. So the burn is fine, the problem is the conversion to video_ts. The log shows both the source file and output file have 23.976 fps (CFR), and the codec was HCenc VBR 1-pass.

The original AVI plays fine with natural looking movements.

Does anyone know what causes this? I assume this is a common problem because I have seen the same sort of thing on movies burned by others, though not as bad as the one I made.

newb0412 - shouldn't be any problem with 23.976 frame rate. Assuming you chose NTSC in the preferences,
pulldown should be applied to the m2v, giving 29.97 fps at the end. Can you post the whole log ?

  25. I chose NTSC in preferences. I left "Keep MPEG2 DVD Compliant Video" checked as it was checked by default, since I don't know what it means. Here is the log:

No, I haven't been doing any sort of previewing in AVS, so far. It is something I intend to check out, but is among many things I will have to wait on, due to being very busy right now.
When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ -- with over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this quintessentially American art form.

newb04012 - the program is acting as if you don't have an xvid codec installed and it's resorting to ffmpegsource2
    (which may be problematic).
have you installed any codec pack? If you have uninstall it. Instead install FFDSHOW and haali media splitter.

    for example:
    mymovie.mkv and mymovie.srt.
rename the subtitle so that it has a different name than the MKV file and it wont be picked up.
The only thing contained within the source folder is the .mkv file

d3xp2pc - I did an experiment, created a five-minute MKV, one audio stream and two subtitle streams.
I deselected both subs in AVStoDVD, but like you, the hard coded subs appear in the DVD output.
It's not AVStoDVD's fault. The mechanism is similar to as I described earlier,
a directshow subtitle filter (ffdshow/subtitle or dvobsub, etc, etc) is merging the subs into the video.

Two solutions that I can think of; disable the subtitle dshow filter, or in AVStoDVD, before starting the project,
enter preferences/avisynth and select FFmpegsource as the AVS source filter. Now add you file and encode.
(It may take 5 - 10 minutes to build the index using this method. Eventually you'll see the encode window)/

Ok thanks for the reply. I will give that a try. Thank you. Sorry might be a noob question but how do I disable the subtitle dshow filter?
