    Hi everyone,

I'm trying to burn some old vhs tapes to dvd. I'm using dvd-ram discs to record the tapes, then copy the file to my Hard Drive. I can change the file extension to mpg and it plays fine.

What I need is a simple program that will allow me to cut off the dead space at the beginning and end, and then burn to dvd-r.

Menus, thumbnails ect. would be nice although for what I'm planning they really aren't necessary.

    Thanks for any Recommendations,

    Roy

Simple way would be to edit in VideoRedo, then author with TSUNAMI MPEG DVD Author Pro, then burn with Nero or IMGBurn.

MPEGVCR is a very good, but not free, MPEG editor.

You can use it to cut and paste, then demux and author.

Simple, no menus, one title, authoring, try ReJig.
Menus, multiple titles, etc, etc, try GuiForDVDAuthor.
    -- both free.

While I haven't tried it a freeware alternative to mpegvcr and videoredo is mpeg2cut2.

I use ProjectX to demux the VOBs into elementary streams and Cuttermaran to cut them. Both are freeware and there are guides here on this site about how to use them (it is quite easy). Then use any authoring program to get a complete DVD again, I prefer GUI for DVDAuthor if I want to make a menu and IFOEdit or MuxMan if I don't.

Edit: I forgot about DVDShrink. You are not quite clear in your description of your method but I think you use a DVD recorder, is that correct? If that is the case you can use the re-author mode in DVDShrink to cut the beginning and the end as you want.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
