HDMI to Interlaced HDTV

I have a 64" HDTV that is NOT progressive . The best it can do is 1080i.

Is is worth it for me to get an upscaling DVD player. sorry i didn't have time to surf around the forums. My return period is about to end on the phillips dvd/divx player i bought for $49.

It's certainly possible that it's NOT worth it to get an upscaling player, depending on how good your TV is at upscaling. My Samsung HDTV is so good at its native upscaling that I haven't even bothered to get an upscaling DVD player. I'm getting really excellent results from an old Philips DVP-642, which is a pretty ordinary player. Some here would even argue that it's terrible, but mine has been OK. Even your cheap Philips DVD player should let you play with the settings. I'm using component video cables and sending a progressive signal (my TV does 1080p) from the DVD player to the TV and I'm getting excellent results. Play with the settings on your DVD player (try both progressive and interlaced output and see which is better for your TV) and if you like the results, then there is no need for an upscaling player.

I tried both. The Interlaced setting works best.
